ABOUT DR. BERNSTEIN
Deborah R. Bernstein offers her patients a unique blend of specialties, combining traditional medical training with holistic and nutritional certifications.
Deborah R. Bernstein graduated from Douglass College, Rutgers University with a BA in Human Communication and Minor in Psychology. She worked in sales after graduation. She then studied at University of Bridgeport for her Masters in Bio-Nutrition and took graduate courses in Psychology, and Exercise Physiology.
After graduating from medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, she completed a general medicine internship and specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She continues to take many additional courses, most of which are oriented towards nutrition, functional medicine, and holistic medicine.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a medical specialty that considers the whole person and looks at non-surgical methods for reducing pain and restoring function.
Functional Medicine is a patient centered healthcare approach that focuses attention on biochemical individuality, metabolic balance, environmental factors and an individual’s unique personal experiences. It creates a framework for looking at root causes.
Holistic Medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person: mind, body and spirit. The practice of Holistic Medicine integrates conventional and alternative therapies to promote optimal health and well being.
Integrative Medicine provides guidance as to what types of therapies have the best research for a given issue.
She is currently board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and recently boarded in Integrative Medicine. In addition, she continues to be a Diplomat in Integrative Holistic Medicine. She is also amongst the first group of practitioners to become an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner.
Dr Debbie Bernstein is happily married and the mother of 2 children and one toy poodle.
She enjoys the outdoors, composing and playing the piano, gardening, traveling, continually learning and walking in nature with friends.
She is committed to serving her patients in creating better quality in their lives through taking a holistic approach to optimal health and well being.
